    the reason for the comparison is because its nearly the same size as the GTI now.

    The new Clubman has better proportions that balance out the ungainly nose. Still not optimal but better. I'm sure the nose is a result of Euro pedestrian impact standards combined with increased fuel economy standards but I think they could have made it more aggressive (for lack of a better term) in the vein of the Countryman.
    Cooper S over a GTI? I'd take the MK6 GTI any day. The biggest disappointment with the MK7 is the expansive use of the textured film that wraps around the gauges and waterfalls down the center stack.

    In real life, the GTI is a freakin' FOOT-AND-A-HALF longer than the F56 MINI Cooper!

    (169" vs. 150.4")

    Not even in the same class of vehicle!
