2015 Ford Explorer - Exhaust issues

I purchased a Ford Explorer 2015 Limited in August 2014. At about 3,000 miles, I noticed a burnt oil or exhaust type smell in the passenger cabin whenever I accelerated. I took the Explorer in and have had it back in four times for this issue. FORD issued a TSB (technical service bulletin) for this issue, and it was performed on my Explorer, but I'm still having the problem. The odor is very strong and the vapor burns my nose and eyes. I had a look on the government car safety site ( nhtsa.dot.gov ) and found that there are other owners out there that are having this same issue. The TSB calls for the dealer to seal up a rear a.c. intake vent at the back of the car and apply sealant to several areas at the back of the vehicle in an attempt to keep exhaust fumes from entering the vehicle, but it didn't work at all in my case.

The smell is more than an annoyance. It is so strong that I'm afraid that constant exposure to it is going to affect my health.

I strongly urge you to do your research before buying this car.

This issue isn't new, and FORD seems reluctant to address the problem. There have been lawsuits filed over this. Here is a link to one: http://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/41791-fords-bid-dismiss-exhaust-defect-claims-denied/

Google "Ford explorer exhaust fumes" before you buy this vehicle. I sure wish that I had!

I had a 2013 Explorer Limited for a couple of years before learning about the carbon monoxide problems. The dealership told me there was no problem. They said the smell was exhaust from other vehicles on the road, and that the solution was to never use the fresh air intake on my climate control. Upon questioning that ridiculous notion they said that was and had always been the case with every vehicle on the road. So, they were either lying or just stupid. Regardless, I traded for something other than a Ford product before the word got out and I was stuck driving a gas chamber indefinitely. In the end, I don't expect much from any auto dealership but Ford should REALLY stop ignoring this, create a solution and order a recall.
