Reading the long term eval on the Acura tells me they have issues with too much "tech." I figured this would eventually happen with the people who appreciate cars that are actually CARS and not appliances for people with ADD. I always told myself I'd seriously consider the Accord if they would bring the 4-door with the V6 AND manual XMSN. Remember, the only like powertrain combo you could get would have been the coupe. Reading the article leads me to believe the 4-door will have this setup available?

Now, let me rephrase my proposition: If I can get the v6 with manual XMSN AND OPT OUT of the "high tech ADD" package, I will consider leaving German cars for an Accord.

Just to stay on my soap box a bit longer, you know we're being so fleeced as consumers it's not even funny, right? All this tech garbage (that actually makes it more difficult and dangerous) is about the same value as tech toys in the Dollar Store or Walmart, right? You realize these circuit boards and Kindle screens are mass produced in China for possibly a few dollars each, but soccer moms will pay top dollar (Thousands) for it because they're absolutely convinced this is a top quality vehicle. Never mind the hard, cheap, rattling plastic in them that most people never notice because they were too blinded by the tech toys. Now people who enjoy quality vehicles are stuck with this because profits point to these practices as the way to go. Just like someone pointed out with the Acuras, it was the automotive journalists who whined about lack of toys and now are whining about too many toys. Where does it end? Anyway, I look forward to researching this car further and hope I can get it in a REAL CAR version; you know, quality interior, comfortable, powerful, stir-your-own gearing, not that cheapo silver plastic protruding touch screen bezel. Just car stuff.

I hear you, rwatson. I can't tell you how many people I know that talk about the car they've just bought, or are looking to buy, and they hardly mention anything about the drivetrain, ride, handling, seat comfort - it's all about how well it integrates with their smartphone and mpg's. Look at the marketing for a lot of them too, it's all about apps and Wi-fi hot spots. Can we PLEASE focus on making it a good CAR first!? And I don't mean the Accord isn't a good car, I mean that as a general statement. And I appreciate the new high-tech safety stuff, but I'm one of those weirdos that still actually likes to drive my car - so please don't make my car have a fit if I want to change lanes, or freak out if I'm 3 inches closer than what it thinks is a "safe" distance from another car. I'm not an aggressive driver, I try not to tailgate or cut people off, but I'm actually concerned that this active safety stuff will prevent me from doing things that I'm intentionally trying to do in normal driving. I don't need to be getting stock reports and browsing the internet while I'm driving. Honestly, all I want is a reliable nav system and the ability to plug a USB stick or iPod in to have my music collection available, and that's AFTER the rest of the car is engineered to be great.

People want what people want. If Honda didn't have the tech toys, sales would plummet. There aren't enough of people like you (drivers first) to sustain Honda's business. I personally think the new Accord looks great. I actually appreciate the tech toys. If CMBS prevents me rear ending someone because I momentarily spaced out, it's already paid for itself. Android Auto and CarPlay are huge upgrades over factory nav.

I literally want nothing on that list.... even the 19" wheels are just added expense I can do without. I would delete the spoiler too, that just makes noise and traps snow in the winter.

I am another one, I would not buy a car because it had too much useless tech. I don't listen to crappy compressed music or use overpriced Apple junk.

I was thrilled to buy a new Integra with no stereo at all and put in an aftermarket one way back in the day.

I also bought a Mustang LX 5.0 instead of the stupid GT that cost more to go slower with that Pep Boys looking stuff bolted on it.

I guess I'm not alone after all. I think there are a lot of us out here. Could we be the "Silent Majority?" I really doubt it, but one thing's for certain, and it's that we haven't been rattling enough cages. I don't think it would hurt one bit.

Support all the comments about more than needed tech and larger, narrow profile tires. I'm ready to trade off my '13 Accord and I saw nothing about Honda taking the edge off the current Accord's overly stiff ride, high level of noise on the highway and filtering out the significant vibration just off of idle from the Earthdreams I4 engine in the Accord and CRV. All the tech in the world is not going to get me to purchase another Accord without cleaning up some of the basic problems with the current model.

I'm feeling pressure to leap at a non-direct injection V6 model before it, too, joins the "Earth Dreams" bandwagon. Not to mention, the problems of trouble-shooting intermittent glitches from the over-the-top tech hard- and software. The ever-more extravagant safety over-rides might save you from a collision, or, they might shove you unexpectedly off the road or into a fellow traveler, someday. Imagine explaining that to the cop. As someone who intends to be a long-term owner, none of this stuff is attractive.

We're on the verge of all these electronic safety system becoming dirt cheap. Remember when ABS was a new thing? let's say in 5 years all the CMBS stuff becomes practically zero cost to you. Why wouldn't you want it?

I don't use Apple stuff either, but one common complaint with factory nav has always been that it's obsolete very soon. With your smartphone directly hooked up, that problem goes away. And you get free navigation, via smartphone.

"Why wouldn't you want it?" -- Do you really want a system that can unexpectedly take over your steering? Or slam on your brakes because a plastic bag got snagged, covering a sensor on your front bumper? ABS makes sense, for refining your natural response in a panic situation. But allowing sometimes-glitch-prone electronics the chance to take control of your car while driving is crazy (IMO).

I want all of it. Here's a recent example of tech helping to "save someone's bacon". Some good posts following that one outlining some of the pros and cons.

I'm with schen72. I WANT the latest tech, I WANT the latest safety features, and if I have to pay more, fine. Those of you getting your panties in a twist because you want a "driver's car," that's too bad. Life goes on, cars change, deal with it. I suppose you hate seat belts because they hold you back, or ABS brakes because you don't need to be told how to brake, right? Here's a fact: Honda mass produces cars for the general public, not some niche market that eschews every tech or safety feature. You want something with no bells and whistles? Buy something else, have a custom-built car, or get an Aston Martin, Lamborghini, or Ferrari. Let the rest of us (the 99% of the public Honda builds cars for) have what we desire in an automobile. Here's another fact: Honda Accord sales were down almost 16% from June 2014 to June 2015. If they didn't pony up and try to outdo the competition, their sales would probably stagnate or continue to drop. They're a BUSINESS, not a charity. Are you willing to pay $150,000 a car? Because if they strip out all the tech and safety stuff you don't like, that's how much they'll have to charge to stay in business. Consumer Reports and the NHTSA all strongly recommend features like CMBS, Road Departure Mitigation and other things to drive down the accident rate and save lives. One last fact: all of the 2016 Accord trim levels have Honda Sensing as OPTIONAL. If you don't want it, don't buy it. Sorry for the rant, but I'm really sick and tired of drivers who only care about "performance" cars and somehow think it's wrongheaded for a consumer-oriented auto manufacturer to build cars that the CAR-BUYING PUBLIC wants.

I would probably agree with some of what you have to say about rattling cheap plastic if we weren't talking about Honda. The Accord has been on Car & Driver's 10 best list something like 29 times, and my personal consumer bible Consumer Reports consistently rates the Accord as having outstanding quality and reliability. I think you're either overreacting or worrying about what hasn't happened yet. Honda's track record is pretty darn amazing in the quality department.

Do you have any proof of these assertions, or is this just fearmongering/speculation? I'm not saying none of what you predict might come true, but I'll say this: I'll bet YOU'LL be glad when the idiot behind you doesn't plow into your behind at 70 mph because his car applied the brakes for him. Just think about that for a minute. And, FYI, some of these systems can be disabled if necessary. I'll bet if you check the facts, these types of systems prevent FAR more accidents than they cause.
