05 Impala transmission acts like it's in neutral when in gear.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me why my 05 impalas tranny acts like its in neutral after it warms up its acts fine shifts great til it warms up i shut the car off let it set for a minute start it again drive 100 ft and does it again

    could be marginal shift linkage/cable rather than internal transmission problem, saving you some repair . heated parts get longer/bigger. so any cable can get longer/looser when it is hot compared to when it is cold. inspect linkage/cables for tautness/wear/looseness? in some modern cars it's all electronic/servos, minimal cables. but electronics also tend to fail more when heated.
