Since I bought my 2009 Pontiac Torrent two months ago, I've had these problems

Hello. I have an appointment with my dealer tomorrow, 8/1/15 at 10:30 to check this out, but I am hoping maybe you could advise them how to fix my issues (I will include the three codes ONSTAR gave me in a second), because I can't afford to have them fix it by trial and error.

We live in North Myrtle Beach, SC and bought,... and will be bringing the car to Jud Kuhn Chevrolet (at 10:30 as previously mentioned), (store # is 843.399.4400) and is in Little River, SC.. Here is my story:

About a week after we bought the car, the "Service Stabilitrack" came on for a day, and then after sitting in the parking lot during work all day, it disappeared for about a month. Now, as of today, it has come back on. I had ONSTAR run a diagnostic to pull any codes (which the dealer tells me they will ignore and charge me 80.00 to diagnose themselves, so what is ONSTAR for? I don't think I should have to pay that fee).

Anyway, ONSTAR gave me three codes: c0561, p1779, and p0404. Is there a way for you to contact my dealer with any input or advice how to go about fixing these issues the first time. My wife drives this car, and after reading some of other owners's stories about spending 1000's of dollars and losing power on the highway, I am afraid for her safety. As previously mentioned, I can't afford for them to guess and am hoping you all can help. You can reach me at [Phone number removed]. The vin number for the car is 2CKDL33F296224863. Please help. I haven't even made my first car payment yet! So I don't have a ton of money to pour in to this car right now (not to beat a dead horse).

Thank you all if you can help. I just don't trust the dealership at this point.

Chris

I'm asking for a GM Representative to respond. Please advise.

Hello! I am not a GM rep. just a member of this forum like yourself. And I just found your post or would have responded sooner. Your vehicle is OBDII equipped, all gas engines from 96 up are; and all diesel from 97 up. I have posted a very good graphic of the OBDII code translation matrix, see it below. Substitute the Xs' for your code number and read what the code is telling you. I have looked up the specific translation of each code for your year and make, hope it helps in some way.

C0561 Traction Control Has Been Disabled

P1779 Engine Torque Delivered To TCM Signal

P0404 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Open Position Performance

Here is a post by someone else from a different forum with an explanation as to your codes.

The codes you had listed was p0404 (twice) and a c0561. The c0561 can be ignored as it is simply the traction control being disabled due to the p0404 code. Excessive carbon build up below the egr valve can also cause this especially if the vehicle has high mileage. The carbon can build up, restrict the flow as well as the travel of the egr valve.

Please remember that OBDII codes are not final analyses of what may be wrong with your vehicle. They are only a guide to help put you on the right track to find the trouble. Each system that produces a code should be checked out completely by qualified personnel, and cross checked as to how it relates to the other codes that are showing. But at least when you talk to your dealer you will have some knowledge of the facts. Good luck to you!
