What's the fix for erratic security light?

The security light in my 1999 Buick Regal has become erratic and sometimes the ignition key won't start the car. The manual says to wait three minutes, but I'd like to know if there's a way to stop the problem from occurring.

Do you have the resistor chip in the key? Clean the resistor contacts on the key.
Dip it in rubbing alcohol and insert quickly into the ignition to clean the two
contacts there that touch the resistance contacts on the key.

Most likely you need to bypass the contacts in the ignition lock by
doing a VATS bypass where the wires from those two contacts go
to a resistor set that you solder together from Radio Shack type
places to match the resistance of your key's chip measured with
    an ohmmeter.
There are videos on you tube.

Another way might be to have a shop that installs car alarms
bypass the key lock for you, since they do that to install their
own security device. They have the resistors already made
up for the GM VATS and are familiar with the location of
the wires under the dash. Once it's bypassed, you no longer
have the resistance check as a security--just the keying
of the key to slow down someone wanting to take your car.
