Being that the car certainly has temperature sensors for the engine, coolant, oil, transmission fluid, grade logic in the transmission, and likely an air quality sensor for the climate control, why all the footnotes in the maintenance minder? It seems that the computer should be able to determine all of the footnotes except for the need to more frequently change the engine air filter in very dusty conditions.

The maintenance minder algorithm only calculates oil life based on sensors and driving conditions. The other maintenance reminders are simply mileage based. The system is able to combine services to save the owner time for extra trips for service. For example if the system determines that the oil needs to be changed and there is 57,000 miles on the odometer then it will also add the transmission service code even though it doesn't need changing until 60,000 miles.
