I hadn't spent much time in our long-term 2015 Volvo S60. Now I realize I'd been missing out.

I think Volvo lost a lot of customers when they got away from their traditional boxy designs. Their cars no longer looked like a Volvo they just blended in with everything else on the road. Staying with a trademark design is one thing few companies understand except for BMW and Porsche. You could take every badge, logo and name off any BMW for the last 40 years and most people will still know it's a BMW.

And I think a lot of people got scared off when Ford sold the company to Geely. But the "blending" happened under Ford and sales fell by 55% so there were a lot of people just not excited about the brand any more. (Bloomberg).

Surprised a bit that Jeep lost their "7 bar grill" design case against Hummer.

Fewer 2014 models were sold because it was a short model year, the 2015's came out in early spring 2014.

I have a 2013 S60 that's rock solid and fun to drive. I consistently get over 30 MPG on the highway (turbocharged 5 - regular gas) and it has plenty of jump. IMO, it looks a lot better than the old boxy Volvos.

Volvo was never on my radar when I was shopping for a new car in the fall of 2012, but the Volvo dealership was right next to the Lexus dealership I had just visited, so I popped in for a test drive and was obviously very impressed. I had also crossed shopped a LaCross, Azera, ATS, TL, Avalon, Taurus, VW CC and a few others before buying the S60. If you're in the market for a car in that price range, take a look. You might be surprised.
