"A 276-hp naturally aspirated V6 is the most powerful engine in the class, though fuel economy suffers as a result. | August 28, 2015 | Kurt Niebuhr for Edmunds"

The Chrysler/Dodge minivans make more horsepower than this engine does. Not by much (283 vs 276) but they are more powerful.

A new vehicle joining your long-term fleet is NOT news.

"...the undisputed kings of the minivan land." The Mopar twins outsell the Odyssey and Sienna.

    Looking forward to this long-termer.

I know y'all like testing all the features possible, but every now and then, how about getting the "cheaper" trim packages, which is more realistic of what's really sold? This top of the line Kia is nearly double of the base vehicle. How about an evaluation showing how even a "stripped down" model can meet your needs?

I think it would be cool if Edmunds added a Ford Transit Connect to the fleet. This would make an interesting comparison to the more mainstream choices out there.
BTW-this is a great looking vehicle!

Two words- fleet sales. Yes, Toyota does it, too, but nobody as bad as FCA.

Perfect timing, I am in the market for Mini Van as well and strongly considering the Kia Sedona. But I am also holding out for the next generation Odyssey.

"The SX-Limited also features large captain's chairs with extendable leg rests in the second row. This is a first for Kia and a class exclusive" - My last Sienna had those and my new Sienna has them. Edmunds is not the only site to review the Sedona and make this peculiar claim.

We replaced our '09 Odyssey earlier this year with the new Sedona - an SX trim level, one down from the one being tested here.

We looked at the current model Odyssey and Sienna, but were really taken by the overall styling of the Kia - exterior and interior.

The only complaints we have relate to the seat mechanisms - the folding of the third row seats takes more effort than the Honda (and Toyota I'd presume), and the "fold-forward" feature of the second row for access to the rear also seems more difficult than it should be. Access is fine once they're folded forward, but it seems the kids need assistance almost every time to get the seats up or back down. Seems to me Kia over thought that one - I enjoyed the ability to remove the second row seats all together in the Odyssey.

Even with those annoyances, if we had to do it over again, we'd choose the Kia again. With only 9 months of ownership under our belt, it's hard to speak to reliability, but FWIW, we've had no issues. Functionally, it fits the bill for what you'd expect from a minivan, but with (in our opinion) much more style than the competitors.

My 09 Sedona has been excellent. I'm interested to see how this one fares in your service.

I don't see a trailer hitch - will you install one? This would be a good test of the visibility, brakes, and drivetrain.

I think it's with the leg rests that is exclusive.

no, its garbage as a passenger vehicle and should only be purchased by fleets who dont need that much cargo space and only care about MPGs. i wanted to like it so much but it is an utter disappointment. It needs a real indipendant rear suspension, larger brakes and overall more comfort

Just wait until resale time. I'd only lease .

I was interested in the Transit Connect too, @bassracerx but it was pretty much as I had imagined. Nice big empty but not all that comfy or fun to drive.

The Sedona would definitely be on my short list if I wasn't more enamored with the Soul.

I've read in other places the sedona is first minivan with adaptive cruise and read here the first with extendable footrests. Neither claim is true. Both go to the sienna. I have had two siennas. The tester is simply misinformed.

My wife and I have an 07 Odyssey. When we passed by a KIA dealer I pointed the new Sedona out and my wife shrugged it off informing me we will NOT have another van! She's too caught up in the whole CUV/Full-size SUV thing. My argument to her was 'why would you want something that gets worse gas mileage, hauls less stuff inside, and has less efficient seating just to look better when pulling up to school?' She had no answer other than to repeat 'we are not getting another van! Why don't you get it if you like it so much?!"
    Ugh, women..... :D

Auto mags have a natural reason to test the optioned-up models. They can't tell you how well an option works-- which helps you decide if it's worth it-- unless they actually have that option on their vehicle. The cases where it becomes difficult for us to read between the lines are those where an option replaces one component with another that may have a totally different character, like sport seats or a sport suspension. You can't decide on those without trying both.
