Is the RDX a smaller version of the MDX?

Hi,

I'm shopping for a Acura and want to know if the RDX is just a smaller version of the MDX. My need for purchasing a SUV is to have a family car. I do have baby on the way and plan to have another in two years or so.

I really like the 2016 MDX but the MSRP of 47K (package tech) is a big deterrent. I'm hoping the RDX would be sufficient as a family car.

Not sure if this is too late. Before we have our child, we had a 2005 Ford Escape (which dimension wise, was more narrow that the RDX.) With a baby sit or a 5-point car seat, only one person could sit next to the baby. We moved up to the Honda Pilot. Fast forward a few years and now that our kid is older and is in a booster, we wanted to downsize the car and picked the RDX over the MDX. The MDX is very big, and the size of the RDX is definitely better (smaller) while we can still sit 2 people besides the car seat.

the RDX in many ways looks/feels like a smaller MDX, but is actually (platform wise) more of a upgraded and loaded up CR-V.
