2015 Jetta lease buyout

I leased a 2015 Jetta from Nh didn't register it. Moved to Illinois and it is still not registered. There is no sales tax in Nh. There is in Illinois. I called vw and they said that I could buy the car outright for 19k because I want my exs name off of it and I want the car. Can I buy the car outright with it not being registered? Would the buyout price be with Illinois sales tax? Wtf do I do?

    How long have you had the car, and how has the bank allowed you to not register it?

    If you live in Illinois, buy the car from VW Credit and register and pay tax there. If you buy the car from the bank, it's their responsibility to give you title to register the car.
