Freelander timing belt estimates run from ~$600 to $1,000. The Edmunds Car Maintenance Guide will give you estimates for scheduled maintenance. RepairPal is another source for repair cost estimates.

Freelanders in general have a terrible reputation for reliability.

One of the worst cars ever built. Chances are, it's not a timing belt problem, but a blown engine. And, there is no option for replacing them.

The car is worth whatever a scrap yard will pay for it.

I wouldn't take that Freelander if they gave it to me. Seriously, they are pure JUNK! All Land Rovers have a bad reputation for reliability but Freelanders top the list!

In addition, if it has an interference engine (I don't know) a broken timing belt could have damaged the engine big time!
