Foglight issue

I just bought a 2003 Forester in great shape, except the fog lights won't turn on. Fuses look good, and about to look at bulbs, but what is curious to me is that the indicator light (small green "on" light when button depressed) only comes on intermittently.

Anyone know if this signals another issue? I can hear the clicking sound that I have read to mean the relay is working, so not sure if I should be taking another approach first.

Hello! Welcome. Without actually having the vehicle to run tests, I can't say for sure; but it sounds like a short. I take the the light and the relay clicking to mean that it is engaging and then disengaging. If these are factory lights look at the connections and where wire comes out of scrolling. If after-market, follow entire length of wiring looking for chafes and or damage to insulation causing short to ground. Also at the light itself, is there an external ground? Is it clean and tight, if not is the light mount clean and tight? Good luck.
