When Ford first added the extended cab doors in the early 2000s, I noticed this too on my parents F-150. The other irritation is that if you don't get the rear door shut well, you'll hear it rattle, even if the door ajar sensor doesn't ding. They can be a pain.

Mini Clubmans had a common problem with the suicide door not latching properly causing the door to rattle. IIRC there was a fix but I don't know how successful it was. A friend had a Clubby S with this issue and could never get it properly resolved. Hope this model doesn't suffer from this long term.
