Transmission problem

Hello - I have an issue that someone may be able to help me with. Like many I can't afford a shop right now and had a mobile mechanic(25yrs.exp.) come and service my transmission. It didn't help so he came back and installed two new solenoids. Still have only 1st,2nd and reverse. Long story short- do I need a new tranny or could it be something else? Thanks!!
