VW odometer

Hey everybody. Leasing a 2015 Jetta/tech pkg back in May. Lease agreement says 16 miles on the odometer. I just passed 10000 mile a few weeks ago. It seems odd to say the least. Now to and from work is about 45 miles round trip, so let's say 900 miles a month just going to and from work..4500 miles just for the commute.. I made a two trips back and forth up to Dulles airport and two trips to Richmond,Va also. I'm just not getting how it could be so high in only 5 months! I asked at the service desk and of course the tech hasn't a clue and says there's no way it can be calibrated. My personal suspicion is that VW has somehow tampered with the software so of course at the end of the lease there will be some fees for going over the mileage limit so they also make money on the back end.

If you can get your hands on a nav or GPS system, it's pretty easy to cross-check your odometer against the GPS readout.

Or just drive a stretch of highway that has mileposts and keep track.

I doubt VW would ever try that---speedometer tampering is a Federal rap and carries jail time.

Do you have a friend with a Garmin in their car? If you could borrow it, that could easily show you GPS mph vs. your speedo's mph.

Also.. if the car actually shows higher mileage, it will be worth less to the bank... charging you extra fees won't make them any money that way..

It makes no sense to manipulate the speedometer, since it would be so easy to discover it.
