I just bought a 2001 Montero Sport Limited. I bought it knowing that  it wouldn't start. The  Seller said that  he over heated it on the GBT and had it towed. He said it would only click not start since then. It  Has NO water in cylinders or oil pan. I just got it home and wanted to ask if anyone knows if there was a overheat protection shutdown. or a reset process that I may want to do before getting further. Thanks

I hope you didn't pay much and that you assumed the worst when you bought it.

All any of us can do here is guess. Hopefully the engine didn't sieze.

Thanks I assumed the worst ahen I bought it and I have under 500 in a straight body and clean paint and brand new B/F s so I am ok. I did get my question answered about a safety shut down. Thanks for your help.

Sounds nice otherwise and a good canidate for a good used engine. I would throw a new timing belt on and inspect the other bolt on stuff. The tires alone are worth a lot of money.
