Before I bought my current BMW 328xd, the other finalist was Volvo V60, essentially the wagon version of the S60, and with the single turbo, not the supercharger-plus-turbo engine you have here. In the old days I strongly preferred Saab over Volvo, but the current generation Volvo has a lot to commend itself. The seats are phenomenal, the ride/handling combination is quite agreeable, steering feel is superior (although initial turn-in seems a little abrupt), interior fitments are solid and upscale but not flashy. Rear seating space is not impressive, though, and the BMW has more interior space and better driver sightlines. All things considered, the Volvo is fully competitive and needs to be considered along with A4, TSX, 3-series, IS, and C-class. It's different from the others but out the door price slots it into a pretty competitive spot. Lots of people who don't consider Volvo in their shopping would be quite happy in one if they tried it.

The Volvo is a little behind the times in terms of technology and infotainment, but otherwise it is an excellent personal luxury car. It's perfect for those that want an upscale vehicle without standing out too much, not to mention the fact that some screaming deals can be had on these cars, especially compared to BMW, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz or Audi.
