The Limits of the Short Bed - 2015 Ford F-150 Long-Term Road Test

In most situations, it's easy to get by with our 2015 Ford F-150's short bed. In this particular situation, however, it was just a little too short.

That's one of the biggest regrets on my 2013 F-150. It's a SuperCrew with the 5.5 foot bed. I wanted to put a below-the bedrail toolbox in it, but quickly realized it'd have made the bed pretty much useless for hauling anything. As it is, I can still haul a "normal" load with the tailgate down. If I had it to do over, it'd have been a SuperCrew with the 6' (+) bed. It may not be much of a difference, but it's enough to be noticeable.

I would say the windows fit, not fitting would be if they are hanging way beyond the tailgate. even with the tailgate closed you would still need to tie down the windows to keep them standing up.

See, this would motivate me to get the 6.5' bed. I think my ideal F-150 would be an XLT SuperCab 4x4 with the 3.5L non-EcoBoost V6 and 301A package. MSRP is $42,220 but TrueCar says I could get it for $32,996 with 0% financing for 60 months. That would be the way to go, in my opinion. No turbo issues to worry about, 6.5' bed and plenty of cab space for what is ultimately a commuter truck.

@ebeaudoin : I'm spoiled with the SuperCrew's interior space. I agree on the 6.5' bed though. As for the 3.5L NA engine, trust me, you don't want it. The fuel economy on it is worse than the 5.0 V8 or the 2.7 Liter Ecoboost (not sure about the 3.5L Ecoboost's numbers). Plus that engine screams trying to keep the truck moving. And I'm not talking about "Screaming from orgasmic bliss." I mean "Face of Death" sort of screaming. It's not enough engine for even an unloaded truck, unless you're only using it in-town, unloaded, sub-45 mph drives.

Did you try putting the windows inside the cab or across the back? Also, the could have been turned on end and put up against the back of the cab.
BTW, a queen box spring doesn't fit lengthwise inside a 6.5 bed.

Haven't stuck my head in here for several months but I'm far from surprised to see yet again this same comment. Don't get the short bed. You buy a truck you get the 8ft bed if you need the cab space then you're getting at least 3/4 ton then.

But the fact remains that like in years past on this blog the bed length has ALWAYS been a sore point and yet no one remembers that when its time to get another truck.

These trucks are made to tow, so you can always buy/rent a trailer.
