Power Steering Leak

We recently had a wheel bearing replaced on our right front tire. When we went to pick it up, the mechanic had the hood open. I asked him what was wrong, and he said the power steering fluid was low and the pump was making a whining/whirring sound. There was no problem with the power steering when we dropped it off. We brought it home and put fluid in it. The next two times we drove it, there were no problems and then suddenly, there was no power steering. We put more fluid in and it all ended up on the driveway. Please tell me it's something as simple as a hose. I'm sinking so much money into this van.

Thanks!
Joanie

Sounds like an unfortunate coincidence that the problem just suddenly started after you took it in. I'd maybe try a different place next time. Yes, it sure sounds like you have an obvious leak. Could be a hose or could be something else. Try to pin point where the leak is coming from, grab a flashlight, and you will be able to see if it's a hose or something else.

If it's a fast leak like that, it might well be a hose. There's usually two hoses--a pressure side and return side...the pressure hose is more expensive, the return hose is a pretty simple fix. The worst case scenario would be a leaking steering rack.
