been a hectic day today. Picked up the E36. Looks good from what I've seen so far. Started right up, no lights on the dash, interior is clean, paint and wheels are nice. Only fault I spotted thus far in my few mins with it is the cloth door inserts have deglued. Should be a relatively easy fix.
While I was there, I had to move a Suzuki Cappuccino out of the way. As maybe I've mentioned, I have been on the hunt for one of these. Now that I tried to get in one, I'll have to take it off the list. I managed to get myself into the seat, but I couldn't possibly operate it from that position.

I don’t think my wife will go back to a sedan. She loves the Q5 but cautions if it starts to ‘cut up’ it’s history. She has asked about the Honda Passport as she likes the size, the V6 that we’ve had experience with and the good service our local dealer has consistently provided.
Funny, today I was driving a number of Audis, mainly Q5s which were right around the 60k mile range and they drove like new. Usually we never kept vehicles like that for that long but I was impressed how well they had aged.

Speaking of wagons, check out this Reliant K Wagon I spotted on I95 New England Thruway in The Bronx, NY. My grandparents in Pittsburgh had one in this exact color. Photo credit goes to my son, Andre (16).
My son had a sedan version of that. Paid $300. No floors but otherwise ran fine @ 133K miles.

The E36 interiors disintegrate, just by looking at them.

Thank you! So far it’s already turning in to an adventure. I had to consult YouTube to figure out how to unplug it yesterday morning. I thought I was going to have to drive the truck to take the kid to school!
Did have a proud moment last night when we figured out how to program the garage door opener lol. Our opener remote is temperamental so I figured I’d just program the car. Only took a half hour, the owner’s manual, and YouTube to figure it out. 🤦♀️🤷♀️

You tube is a life saver on a lot of stuff like that. And changing cabin filters.
We bought a plan that pays for all maintenance and stuff for 6 yrs/60k miles. It’s pays for everything, lights, brake pads, wiper blades, I don’t remember what else but it’s a lot. We figured it was worth it since the car is so expensive and honestly I feel totally out of my league with it lol.
Ahhh -- garage door opener, that's another thing missing on my new Silverado. Not a big deal by any means, I have a little remote to clip on the passenger side visor. But I did rather expect to find one. And I have spent a bit of time myself programming those things. Never on my own cars, those have all been easy, but helping out friends and families.
And speaking of openers, I finally got around to installing a keyless deadbolt lock on my front door. Amazon put one on sale for $49, so I took advantage of that. Came with good instructions, and only took about 10 minutes to install as I was lucky enough that everything fit. Very handy, I definitely should have done this years ago.
And I think my next upgrade will be a keypad for opening the garage door. That would also be handy to have.

I don’t usually use the garage door opener that’s programmable in the car. Long story short, I injured myself, drove myself to the er, got good drugs, had to have a friend drive me home. Big problem was I had no house keys, only way in was the garage door opener programmed in to my car. She had to drive my car home and then call someone to come get her.
However with out remote dying I figured I’d probably better program it in or I’ll get stuck in or out of the garage.
We had a keypad for the garage on our last house, they are handy.
Hubby installed some sort of fingerprint Bluetooth deadbolt lock thing on our front door. I’m convinced it hates me since most of the time it won’t read my fingerprint. I threaten to rip it off of there all the time. He’s also got some app thing that he can open and close the garage door with, I refuse to learn that one. Bad enough I had to figure out the app for the door.
keypad for the garage door opener is a must have. we never use a house key. At the old place for years I never even carried one. But for emergencies (such as a power failure) we did hide a spare key in the shed. and the neighbor had one.
my Maverick didn't have homelink. Does not matter to me, I have the clicker on the visor. If anything, more convenient since it is a much bigger button that is easier to find!

Speaking of Audi's durability and longevity, my S4 was not to blame for my recent problems.
In having the windshield checked, it was indeed a bad prior installation by the prior dealer and/or owner.
The whole entire left side of the windshield was unbonded. Completely loose and flapping once the trim was removed.
This is a major part of the car's structural integrity and a safety issue. These bad mobile installations (suspected) are looking for a huge lawsuit in the future should someone be unfortunate enough to suffer from the defects of a collision with a badly installed windshield.
I went to a reputable recommended/referred shop that doesn't do mobile installations anymore for precisely these issues being too common.
The after-care is significant too; no washing for a week, no slamming doors, leave windows at least 1/2" cracked open, no going over 70 MPH on the way home, and of course, they keep the car for several hours before giving it back in the first place.
So the windshield was to blame for water getting into my central control module; of that we are certain now. The glass shops I talked to defended aftermarket glass but admitted a bad install could happen to anyone (but with the one shop saying that's why they don't do mobile installs anymore).
The S4 is blameless. Party on.

I'm with @stickguy - I rarely carry house keys, as we enter and leave the house through the garage.
Subaru has Homelink programmed. The MINI has homelink, but when we moved into the new house and got a new garage door opener installed, the tech could not program the homelink in it. Tried for like 30-45 minutes and gave up. We have the remote on the visor.
Our house came with a programmable keypad lock for the front door. As we never met the original owners (we signed the closing papers on different days), we had to work with their realtor to get the old code so we could change it to one that we'd remember.
MINI just crossed 60,000 miles in the last week. Set up a service as the reminder light came on. Guess I'll find out what it needs when I take it in. Was also told that the passenger washer nozzle and the rear washer nozzle are inoperable, so I'll get that sorted out as well.

I always figured that most of them were 1-2-3-4.
The default code for this new one I just bought is "0000". I wonder how many still have the default?
I remember back in 1983 I attended a class for Sperry-Univac systems programming, and the instructor mentioned the default admin password for all Sperry-Univac mainframes. Which was supposed to be changed immediately after the computer was installed. Guess what? Yeah, you got it on the first try, our new $11 million mainframe still had the default admin password.

I used to take care of my neighbors house when they were away (take the garbage pails out mostly) so they gave me their garage keypad code. Yup, never changed after 10 years from the 0000 default.
Nice punch @akangl ! How much electric range are you supposed to get with that? Is that the same dealer that @xwesx has taken his Q7 Diesel to for service?
Yep, the very same! I've had my Q7 sitting in that exact spot on more than one occasion. LOL

The market is crashing; banks are getting bailed out again, whether by directly bailing out uninsured deposits, or by giving bailout subsidized ultra low rate loans to the banks. They all equal BAILOUTS. Bailout BONANZA.
I will say I am in favor of the lesser evil being bailing out depositors rather than investors, but it's still poison.

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. That's the cheapest full-sized 4-door they've had on BaT since 2020, and this is the cream of the crop in condition and spec. SIGH. Well, I didn't LOSE money, so I guess it is what it is. Now what remains to be seen is if he'll go through with it. He tells me he is in CA. Will they even allow him to have it over there?? So y'all who just said "heck, I'd buy it for that," I'll hold ya to it. Oh, and his price was just over $9k with the fee. I'll round it down to an even $9k for you.
