OUT - Z4. No surprise here I'm sure, as it was always an extra once the M2 arrived.

IN - This RX. Why? We need something with more accommodating seating space. Rivian says my reservation won't convert before the end of the year. And I'm on a schedule, correction, our new addition is on a schedule, which is a new kiddo at the end of July. I am 6'2" and my wife is 6'; combine that with a rear facing seat and it gets uncomfortable quickly. The Lexus is a placeholder, is good on mpg as a hybrid, and should hold it's value pretty well until we figure out what we eventually want to do. It's a 22 with 12k miles - local dealer had it sitting on the lot for about 75 days so we were able to work something out. It has the sliding captain's chairs which work okay. And since someone will ask, I considered another Model X, but it has noticeably less real legroom between the first two rows.

PENDING departure- the Model 3. Since the Y is more accommodating and practical, it becomes my wife's new daily. But she has made it known that she prefers to drive the 3. So I know that now. But we don't need both.

UNDER review - Montero. I enjoy it every time I drive it, and it gets lots of compliments. But I think this will be moving on soon, as one toy is enough at the moment.

I'll leave it there, and will omit the upstairs remodel/refresh that we've been doing. So many fumes.

Not that it means anything, but the wife mentioned this morning that one day, we'll have to look at getting a new car. Outback is at 8+ years old but only 56,000 miles, so I suspect that day isn't coming soon.

I mentioned that; she wasn't 100% convinced that we should go in that direction. I could see a nice PHEV - the Mazda CX-70 is something I'd consider, if it has the same drivetrain as the new CX-90.

You are probably in the sweet spot with the Sube. You got lots of life from it, but it is still probably worth quite a bit. So you can cash out nice equity and avoid upcoming more significant maintenance and repairs, and at some point, it probably drops off the depreciation cliff (sometimes hard to tell when a car suddenly becomes "old" to the market. I usually assumed 10/100, but I used 8/80 as my personal cutoff!

Kicking myself for not looking at one last fall when it looked like the stars might align. As the market has started to normalize Lexus values haven’t really dropped, so they’re out of my wheelhouse.

About changing rates, what are the price differences between charging stations? FWIW, I’ve only seen the free ones and just a few of those. I guess premium with charging stations are the fast charging jobs.

not sure if the charging companies surcharge for the fast chargers, or you just pay by the KW (so same cost on a slow charger, just takes longer).

some brands also include a certain amount of free charging on one of the pay networks (they basically give you an account credit). Or at least, they used to!

She's probably driven the Outback 3 times in the last 2 years. It's my car, for all intents and purposes.

We put over $2000 into it about 18 months ago for the 60K service (well, more like 60 months).

Keep getting updated offers from Carvana - latest one was just under $20K, and the Subaru dealer tells me I could trade it in for a new Limited XT for something like $450/mo.

I'll stick with a known quantity, for the time being.

I've taken a liking to the new Accord Hybrid, myself, but it's unlikely that we'll ever be a sedan (or FWD only) family again.

It's possible a hybrid or PHEV SUV of some sort could be in the running for our next vehicle.

CRV hybrid is same drivetrain as the Accord. My son and his GF like the one they bought recently.

my BIL also just got a Santa Fe hybrid and so far they really like it.

Our friends who have a Tesla had a bit of an adventure finding a charging opportunity between Montgomery, AL and Nashville. So even in a Tesla the charging infrastructure is only so robust.

the technology is still developing. at least the government (for now) is supporting the expansion and improvement of the infrastructure.

hopefully the new battery technology coming some is another leap. Getting rid of the fire risk, and improving energy density so longer range/quicker recharge times.

We’ll stick to around town commuting with our EVs for now. A co-worker of mine has a Polestar 2 as his only car and he likes roadtrips, so he has tested the charging infrastructure on a number of occasions. He gets it done, but there’s usually a story about non-functioning chargers causing him distress as he desperately searches for an alternative he can get to.

When I joked about having 2 EVs in the garage and now a gas-guzzling V8 SUV, he seemed to cringe a little bit.

I also have a coworker who leased a Polestar 2 and he seems pleased with it. He hasn’t voiced and concerns over range anxiety or charger availability so maybe he stays at home a lot.

So, do you have to commit to using a specific amount of additional electricity per month than you normally did before the installation? AND, do you have to prove you own an EV and agree that you’ll own an EV for a specific amount of time?

I was wondering about that. My local electric utility doesn't offer a free home EV charger. They do offer a couple of interesting options for businesses who wish to host an EV charger, including networked and non-networked chargers, for a monthly fee which varies based upon whether the electricity they consume is metered or non-metered.

AND, do you have to prove you own an EV and agree that you’ll own an EV for a specific amount of time?

So far as I know, there were no minimum usage requirements, but you did have to agree to allow the charger to connect to the internet so they could manage when the charging could take place (e.g., overnight, when the load on the grid is lighter)

The charger is basically set to only charge overnight at non-peak hours, but it can be overridden if needed. The utility company subsidizes the installation costs (up to $500 I believe) and there is a lease/finance fee on your bill for the charger itself (amortizing the cost over 24 months).

Haven't driven the Maverick since last Friday. The GF's new job doesn't start until next week, so she's been running errands during the day and taking her car. Last night, I went to grab the reusable bags I use at Aldi out of the Maverick, and the interior lights didn't turn on (but turned on fine when I manually pressed the button to force them on). This appears to be caused by "deep sleep" mode, which activates after the battery charge falls by a certain amount. I remote started it for 10 minutes, but still no lights when I open the door, so I guess I need to take it for a longer drive or connect the Battery Tender.
