I am disappointed with this new E Class line up. The E300 2017 model only has 241 HP, which is the same as C300, yet it will cost almost $20,0000 more. The shape of the new E300 is also almost indistinguishable from the C class. I understand that the E class will be technologically more advanced than the current C class, but it still has the same engine and will therefore be slower than the C. E43 (same car at 396 HP) will start at $70,0000 which means $85,000-$90,000 if you want to get all the upgrades. At this price, I might as well decide not to continue with Mercedes and opt for BMW 740/750 or Maserati Quatroporte instead.

I'm not a fan of the two digit nomenclature for semi-AMG models.

I agree with @fintail that this vehicle seems like a poser AMG model. Power-wise it slots in as an advancement of the previous generation's E400 (also a turbo V6) and below the previous E550. Is the AMG designation being cheapened to include all vehicles with midrange engine and (maybe) a sport package?

Just like the Audi "S" is more of a sport package and minor tuning, and several BMWs wearing an "M", Germans just discovered yet another niche, the semi-tuned car.

400HP and a 4.5 sec 0-60 is better than most, not so distant, "Full Blown" AMG models. I just ordered one fully equipped and ended up with a 90K tab. My guess is that the E63 will probably be pushing 120K. Mercedes will not be selling many of those. The E43 will sell well given its price/performance ratio, given that it will still outperform 99% of the cars you will ever meet on the road. Its no track car but just the ticket for a sport everyday driver. BTW, after test driving it, I can easily attest that the engine and time specs are probably on the conservative side, the car provides ferocious acceleration at any speed. I presently drive a Renntech tuned C400 (385HP) and the E43 felt stronger. Furthermore, after driving it on street I could not detect any unusual steering characteristics, the car handles and turns beautifully with precise steering and abundant adhesion. Everyone seems pained about the AMG designation, the fact is most buyers of this car will not give a hoot, they are simply looking for a much better performing version of the E300, which in itself, is a very good performer to begin with, you would never guess there was a 4 banger in it unless you opened the hood. I also opted to replace the boy racer black interior and red belts, I prefer a more "mature" environment, again, probably what most buyers of the particular model want. In summary, this car is simply awesome regardless what "stickers" you put on it, personally mine is fully "debadged". The only downside is waiting 3-4 mths for delivery, its going to be a loooooong wait!

With the M550, S6, GS-F, the E43 makes sense. I am still not a fan of two digit numbers being used on cars that aren't full-on tuned, but I am a traditionalist who has owned 2 classic AMGs. The new naming is what the marketers want, and when have they been wrong?

I think plenty of E63 will still be moved on to new owners - it's a couple degrees more intense, and in my area anyway, there's a demographic who wants the most expensive model in the range that's on the lot right now, no matter why is it is so expensive. This is the new Belle Epoque, and there seems to be little problem moving six figure cars of any make.

Good move replacing the red belts, I see pics of those and cringe. Not sure what they were thinking, but German style can be questionable sometimes.
