I get about $447/mo +tax on the 36/10 lease, which is pretty close.

I couldn't see paying $55/mo. more to get a 24 month lease

When I plug all my numbers into the Edmunds lease calculator it is showing me a monthly payment of $371. Clearly it is missing something or I am inputting something incorrectly....can you shed some light for me, please?

I just want to have a clear understanding when I talk to the salesman as this will be the first time I am leasing a vehicle. Appreciate your help.

When I input my numbers into the formula provided the monthly payment is significantly lower.

1. Sticker Price of the car + options $46,650
2. Times the residual value percentage X 0.71
3. Equals the residual value = $33.121.50
4. Invoice price of car minus incentives (net capitalized cost) $40,616.72
5. Minus the residual (from line 3) - $33.121.50
6. Equals the depreciation over 36 months = $7,495.22
7. Depreciation (line 6) divided by term in months ÷ 36
8. Equals the monthly depreciation payment = $208.20
9. Net capitalized cost (From line 4) $40,616.72
10. Plus the residual (From line 3) + $33.121.50
11. Equals = $73,738.22
12. Times the money factor X 0.00115
13. Equals money factor (interest) payment portion = $84.80
14. Monthly depreciation payment (from line 8) $208.20
15. Plus money factor payment portion (from line 12) + $84.80
16. Equals bottom-line monthly lease payment = $293
17. Bottom-line monthly lease payment (from line 16) $293
18. Times sales tax (6%) x.06
19. Equals sales tax portion = $17.58
20. Bottom-line monthly lease payment (from line 16) $293
21. Plus sales tax portion (from line 19) 17.58
22. Equals total Monthly payment = $310.

I feel like something has to be missing here. Even if I add in the fees (TTL, acquisition, etc) of $1862 into the payment that only raises it 51.70 per month for a total of approx. $362.

This amount is considerably different than $447 + tax so I just wanted to be confident in the numbers I am returning with to the dealer. With an over $75 difference to your calculations and over $100 difference in the payment quoted by the dealer, it just made me question the available formulas.

I get the same numbers - but, I think you are mixing and matching the residual and lease term.

71% is the 24/10 residual; 36/10 is 64%.

So, the 24 month payment is $421, and the 36 month payment is $403.

Thanks - that makes more sense to me! They did give me the residual of 71% on the sheet they gave me for the 36 month but I felt like that was high for that long of a lease. I will touch back with them to ask about those numbers.

If the selling price is the adjusted cap cost, I get $415/mo + tax for 24 months, or $394/mo + tax for 36 months.

That's right - the prices I posted are with tax included. Put them in my calculator and figures are roughly the same...$2 dollars difference.

Sounds good .. if you're comfortable with the selling price, no reason not to pull the trigger.

.00110 MF and 65%/59% residual. $500 lease cash.

Lexus does have an MSD program. Haven't heard about an autopay discount.

Hi, I test drove a pretty sweet RC-200t here in Nashville, TN today, and asked the saleman a ton of questions. He had to bring the finance manager to answer all of my questions. The finance manager asked where I got my car leasing education because people don't normally have any idea what "money factor" or "residual value" is. I told him edmunds.com

Anyway, here are the numbers they gave me. These are an estimate based on excellent credit. The monthly payment seems high, especially considering these prices include the MSDs.

Any thoughts?

Base MF is .00110; your dealer is marking it way up.

Also, find out what the adjusted cap cost is, and what the up front money covers.

@seventytimes7 With MSDs lowering the money factor, you should be around .00038. (three zeroes)

Also, find out the adjusted CAP cost. Because even with that much MF markup, the payment is still way too high. There is a lot being added, somewhere.

When you take all that knowledge in to the dealership, you have to squeal when you see the wrong numbers.

You don't negotiate the MF; you politely tell them you won't sign a deal where it's been marked up. The dealer knows what the base rate is.

And yes, these are the official Lexus numbers.

The lease cash can be used either as cap reduction or to reduce the up front costs (fees, taxes, etc.)
