You can lease an S3 for cheaper than that. I too really want an R but at .00188 it just doesn't make sense to lease.

Using your prices, I get a payment of $473/mo before tax. If the total tax is indeed 18.5%, the payment jumps to $561/mo. Pretty close to the dealer quote of $552/mo.

Ya I am in the same boat. Would really want MT, but it just doesn't feel right to pay the same or even more for a car that is 15k less expensive MSRP to MSRP. I really want the R but leasing it is too expensive. So I'm leaning toward the S3.

Thanks for confirming my numbers. I calculated $552. The dealer came back with ~$614...

Any idea how they could have arrived at that number? They were using the same MF and Residual I was working with. I was at the dealership for about 2 hours and my blood sugar was plummeting when I was presented with the lease contract. Since we were way off, I decided to walk away.

Yeah... I'm not willing to settle on the S3. Now, the S4, I might bite on that; even with an auto tranny/DSG. There's a dealer nearby that has (7) 2016 S4's on its lot. I was able go negotiate selling price of one with an MSRP of $56k to $47.5k. I wonder if I go in towards the end of the month, if they'd bite on a selling price offer of $45k... If Audi further sweetens the money factor for the S4 in the coming months, in order to move the last batch out, I might pull the trigger on one...

The S3 is more nimble than the S4, but yes, if there's a MT S4 somewhere I would JUMP on it, but my dealer looked and I also searched around hard and there is zero manual S4 to be found.

Dealer told me there basically isn't a cap cost since the lease figure of $409 is based off just the MSRP alone.

In other words, no discount from sticker? Hmmm ... read back through this thread, and I think you'll find that some discounting is available on the Golf R.

Might be time to reach out to other dealers.

I just tired Edmonds Lease calculator vehicle specific Golf R but I notice that it sets the Money Factor field to 0.00125 every time unless you manually change the figure. I was just wondering why it chooses 0.00125 instead of 0.00188?

My guess is that the calculator assumes it's a GTI, which it is not.

Better to build your own lease calculator, then you can control all the input numbers:

I get $543/mo plus tax, so the calculations look to be correct.

However, the MF is marked up the max - base is .00188. That alone will shave $35/mo off the payment.

My Favorite Quote goes to my local dealer in Oregon for vehicle in transit $798. Plus they had MSRP markup to $47,000. I feel they deserve some sort of award.

Golf R's are popular, but wow.

Might be worth it to check Seattle, Bay Area or Boise VW dealers to find one more accommodating.

Oh I did I'm getting the classic run around quotes that are off ranging from $600-$570 when target should be $430-$500. One told me a 1.5% difference in money factor doesn't change the price much! You got be joking that's a difference of roughly $2700 over the life of lease.
