New Outback - Recommend buying the extended service contract?

I bought a new outback last night! 2.5 Limited with Nav, Moonroof and Eyesight package.

It was late so I did not buy the extended service contract nor did they try and push it on me. Anyone have thoughts on whether it's been a good buy or not? I expect to put maybe 6-8K miles on it a year.

If so, does anyone know of a dealer who is willing to sell it at a great price? I was a previous Honda owner and would always buy it separately from another dealer who would price it just above their cost. Only downfall is you can't build it into your finance, but I don't care about that.

Is this the extended warranty or prepaid maintenance?

My sister got the prepaid maintenance on her sort of recent Crosstrek purchase because they showed her what the dealer charged for the usual oil change service. She figured it'd be a bit cheaper to prepay.

First postal mail she got from the dealer was some coupons for half-off oil changes and the like. She wasn't amused. :'( (I kind of was since I recommended that she skip it. B) ).

If it's the extended warranty, my preference would be to wait until the factory warranty nears expiration and decide then. A lot can happen in 3 years or so and you may not even have the car then. Best check the conditions at Subaru's web site though - they may limit when you can buy that coverage.

Congrats on the new ride! I've heard nothing but good things about the Eyesight.

The extended warranties most dealers offer are not Subaru factory warranties. They are from third party companies and the dealer makes a TON of money off the sale of these contracts. You can usually find a dealer selling the Subaru warranty online and at a discounted price from retail. But generally, in most cases, the extended warranties are not worth the money,

Insurance is a bet---they're betting your car doesn't break and you're betting it does. The house usually wins. You can sometimes tell what your odds are by the amount of money they charge you for the extended warranty. If it's a whopper, then you know that your car has a history of being ornery.
