Drivers side mirror blind spot

Having nearly had several wrecks in the last two months I was wondering if others are having the same blind spot problems on the drivers side. The wife says she nearly got a motorcycle two days ago that was hiding where the mirrors can't see.

There's a trick to adjusting mirrors - it takes a little bit of getting used to if you aren't doing this already.

A better way to adjust your side mirrors is to move the glass outwards so your field of view is of other cars and blind spots are eliminated. @Lateralg used to say that your car’s rear quarter panels aren’t a threat. So there's no reason to be looking at them in your side view mirrors.

To adjust your side mirrors this way, first put your head against the driver’s side window. Adjust the mirror so the rear quarter panel just barely disappears from your field of view. Then move your head towards the center of the car – your console or gear selector is a good reference point to hover over if you have one.

Repeat the adjustment for the right side mirror so that your right rear quarter panel just disappears from your field of view.

This new arrangement will take a short while to get used to. If it absolutely drives you crazy, then move the mirrors in just a touch so that you can just barely see your rear quarter panels when you look at your mirrors.

It may also help to get those little stick-on blind spot mirrors.

Haven't seen other complaints about this (yet).

No matter how hard you adjust the mirror and make it perfect. there will always be a blind spot for any vehicle. The best thing is to keep this in mind and be careful.

As tommypress says, there will always be a blind spot. That's why you're supposed to give a quick glance over your shoulder, safety permitting. Usually, this is feasible.
