The 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk gets a few things wrong, but also a few things right. One of the things it gets right is the triangle between the driver's hand, steering wheel controls, and the shift lever.

    "So you keep the left hand anchored on the wheel, say 8 or 9 o'clock, while the right hand is free to float between the wheel, the cruise control buttons, and the shift lever. If you're driving around town or in swift, high-volume traffic, you'll be floating between those points on the triangle often, trying to keep the Renegade in its sweet spot."

    Sounds like the description of a manual transmission to me. If it actually had one, it would be on my short list when the snow returns this winter.

    What are the chances of Jeep reprogramming the transmission to make the vehicle driveable? IMHO, zero because they would have to recertify with the EPA and the test numbers would be lower due to the EPA protocal being unable to deal with a 9-speed transmission.

    Allpar.com is reporting new software updates were available for the 9 speed in May for the 200 and Cherokee. I wonder if the Renegade has an update too. Owners are noticing an improvement. If you do get a software update for the transmission please let us know if it improves things. The transmission is what is holding me back from purchasing a Renegade or 500x right now. Thanks

    Credit for the steering wheel controls have nothing to do with the Fiat part of the company. Chrysler came up with that design way back in the 90's when steering wheel audio controls were the new cool tech. That's when the company was all American, no Daimler no Fiat, pure American ingenuity. Cruise control functions on the front where they have always been and audio on the back of the spokes. Clean uncluttered design that still works.

    dont know if this applies, but I have an FCA vehicle - a Charger - with 8 speeds, and driving in Sport mode mostly keeps it out of 8th gear. does the Jeep have a Sport mode?
