The road from my house to Bend, Oregon is long and straight, so we settled in and watched California drift past as our 2016 Honda Pilot rolled on.

Those door pockets are aces. If there's a better design out there, I can't think of it. A deep map pocket. A cupoholder that holds the drink upright and within reach. Another pocket/shelf. This is fantastic.
That touchscreen looks awful and the shifter is terrible. For the sake of the car-buying public can Edmunds and the rest of the auto journalism community get to work on the manufacturers? Serious de-merits. No recommendations of cars with this kind of thing. It's confusing. It's awkward. It's different for the sake of being different. A lever is perfect for ease of use and feedback. Let's bring them back please.

I'm not sure whether the adaptive cruise being not that good is a concern or a relief to me. The new Ridgeline has really caught my attention, and it shares a lot with the Pilot (but thankfully not the pushbutton transmission controls or the 9-speed auto). On one hand, I want to take advantage of the latest safety features - adaptive cruise, anti-collision braking, lane keeping assist, etc. - but only if they actually work well and aren't annoying. It's disappointing to hear that it doesn't work that well, on the other hand maybe I'll just save some money and skip the top trim with "Honda sensing" if I were to buy one.

I hope the steering wheel volume control and voice command work well enough, it looks like I'd want to keep my fingers off that screen as much as possible. It's sort of funny though, we have an '08 Odyssey and I've always felt like it has too many buttons. Now I see new Hondas and wish they had more buttons and knobs. Sometimes the "old way" is still the best way.
