Calling Los Angeles-based car shoppers: Have you recently traded in (or plan to trade in) a car with negative equity (i.e. the amount you owe on your auto loan is greater than the car's value)? A reporter would like to speak with you; please reach out to PR@Edmunds.com by 11/6 for details.

Pays to shop around

I shopped half a dozen Ford dealers for a 2016 Ford Edge Titanium, Bronze Fire with Cognac interior, 2.0 motor, front wheel drive, 301A pkg, and Driver's pkg. I was told by 5 of the dealers that the $1.000 customer cash that Ford is offering right now would not be available to us. The sixth dealer gave me the $1,000 cash credit with no questions asked. I assume that the other dealers keep the $1,000 for themselves.
Also, the dealer Fee processing fee varied from a high of $699 at several dealers to a low of $99 at one dealer. Coincidentally (or not) the dealer who gave me the rebate also had the lowest processing fee.
Many of the Edges that the dealers had in stock were loaded up with trailer hitches, $995 chrome wheels, and other extras we weren't interested in.
Ultimately we ordered exactly the Edge we wanted. $41,500 out the door.
I used email and the phone for all my shopping and we'll be glad to see our Edge in 4-6 weeks. Bruce from TN

Congrats @bbear. What part of the "Three States of Tennessee" do you live in (I lived in Chattanooga back during that Three States debacle).

Please write up a Dealer Review too - thanks!

We live in middle TN, about 1.5 hr north of Chattanooga, on the scenic Caney Fork River.

I canoed the section that goes under I-40 three or four times back in, oh, would have been '79 or so. Rained a bit and I caught a big honking bass at camp.

That's the great thing about your Edge - easy liftover height for putting canoes and kayaks on top. One big biker guy I knew would put 3 or 4 cycles up there and fill the back up with gear, and he'd still have room for his riding buddies. He loved his Edge.
