Ask the dealer for the specific breakdown of the $2000 up front.

Our recommendation is to limit the up front cash to just the first payment and DMV costs.

Hi, I am new to this forum. Looking at a '17 SE V6 w/ tech. Selling price is $27k, retail is $30,465. MF is .00001, residual is $14623. $1500 out of pocket, 10k miles, 36 months. Monthly payment is around $480 including 9.5% sales tax (Redmond WA). This includes $4k of negative equity on my current VW lease that I am trading in. I think without the trade in, the monthly payment would be around $400-410 but not 100% sure on that. Can someone tell me if the lease itself is a good deal? I know being upside down $4k isn't ideal but looking for a bigger car. Thanks to all

If $27K is the adjusted CAP cost, then I get $344/mo.+tax = $377/mo.
Adding $4000 negative equity = $455/mo.+tax = $498/mo.

I would suck it up and keep driving your current lease. If you roll $4000 of negative equity, you also pay sales tax on that amount.

Lease cash amount is the same, regardless of lease length.

Could this be a 3rd party bank your dealer is using?

I did the math and it looks like the 398/mo rate is with MSRP at 31815, Sales price of 28665 (essentially just taking off the lease cash), 229 of fees resulting in a gross cap cost of 28894. They are taking first month as down payment of 398. that results in an adjusted cap cost of 28496.

This is using tax rate of 8.475%.

So really nothing more than giving me the lease cash. Not sure I trust the 765 in cash for the two lease payments. I am dealing with a different dealer than the original lease. Would that make a difference? I was hoping they would just take the car back and pay off the 2 months.

They won't take the car back, unless the remaining payments are added into the new lease. 

You should get the payoff and trade values of your current car. That information will help with your negotiations.
