AC button light

Nice car except extremely frustrating AC issue. Pressing AUTO in climate, AC comes on as it should but AC button does not light. And only way to turn off AC is to press AC button, which then lights, and then press again and light & AC turn off. Especially a bummer in cold weather when I never know when AC is on because AC button light does not light and one can drive all day with AC on unnecessarily. Same with defroster, AC is on but AC button does not light. I've owned numerous G models and never experienced this.
Bottom line: How come AC button doesn't light whenever AC is on????

In automatic mode, A/C may run, to remove humidity from the air, so your windows don't fog over (even during cold weather, even with the heat on). If you are in AUTO mode, just forget about it. If the A/C is on, it's necessary.

That doesn't answer your bottom line, but it's how it is designed to work.

Thanks for your response & understood but as you admit, does not address my bottom line question.  What ever could be the rationale for the AC button not to be lighted whenever the AC is on?
