It's well-documented in our experiences with the 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk that the transmission has issues. But, there's a way to live with it.

I am dumbfounded that you folks have kept this thing an extra 5,000 miles. The sooner it's recycled into Chinese-made kitchen appliances, the better for all concerned.

Are you @longtimelurker? Maybe this will help: http://www.edmunds.com/jeep/renegade/2015/long-term-road-test/introduction.html

We got it a year ago. We're currently in the process of selling it. We keep our long-term cars for a year. Sometimes they get more than that. This one just got 5000 extra miles thanks to a trip to Detroit and back. Not sure what's so dumbfounding about that.

This 'fix' sounds a lot like how folks adopted to driving the terrible AT in the smart when it came out.

Just sounds like torture...I probably would have gotten it to 20k and parked it for the remainder of the calendar year. But reasonable people can differ. Did you see the recall on this tranny, in this vehicle...the nature of the fault - can drop the tranny into neutral at any time, at any speed, from any gear, regardless of shifter position. Good times. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/chrysler-recalls-jeep-cherokee-chrysler-200-jeep-renegade-and-ram-promaster-vehicles-080816.html

Good luck with your 10-speed transmission, Ford!

So your solution to a bad automatic is to use it as a manual, which defeats the purpose of buying an automatic.
Should have gotten the Renegade Sport instead; people actually like how it drives. The Renegade Sport is one of those cases where less is more.

Had the misfortune to rent a Renegade (non-Trailhawk) with the 9-speed transmission. God, how I hated that car! That transmission was absolute rubbish, as Jeremy Clark might say. It was rough, busy, and wildly inconsistent. I also hit on driving in manual mode to avoid the worst of the transmission's flaws, but even then, it was a joyless experience. While the transmission ruined the car for me, I don't understand the generally positive press the Renegade gets. I thought it was a cramped, cartoony, sham-Jeep not worthy of the name. I especially hated all the Jeep "Easter eggs" molded into the acres of interior plastics. Everywhere I looked, I saw an embossed Jeep grille and headlights. It's a Jeep, get it? Yes, I [non-permissible content removed] get it - now go away.
