2016 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium - Trouble starting the engine

This may be a very stupid question, but I just bought this SUV a couple of days ago and it seams very difficult to start. I always have to try a few times before it starts. I read the instructions and it says to press the brake pedal and then turn the ignition to start. I have the regular key, not the keyless model. Sometimes it works...sometimes it still seams to take a couple of tries. Is there some special trick to this? I have only ever driven Chevrolet Tahoes and all I had to do was barely turn the ignition switch. I feel like an idiot not knowing how to start my own SUV.

Are you leaving your foot on the brake while you crank it? Hm, sounds like you are.

And it doesn't sound like you aren't pumping or pressing the gas pedal.

Try turning the ignition on for ~5 seconds before pressing the brake and trying to start it - if you listen closely you may hear the fuel pump "priming".

If the 4Runner starts immediately, you could have a fuel pressure issue.

In any event, I'd swing by the dealer and get another opinion.
