We didn't add many miles to our 2016 Nissan Titan XD in October, but we did top off its diesel exhaust fluid and use it to tow a 1930s Ford.

Unless you need the higher tow rating the diesel RAM just crushes this truck. I think the RAM's best fill was 28 and you got high teens even when towing.

14.5 mpg from a diesel? What the who now?

Unless you need the higher tow rating the diesel RAM just crushes this truck. I think the RAM's best fill was 28 and you got high teens even when towing.

For perspective, my 2016 RAM 4WD EcoDiesel Crew Cab (6'4" bed) Big Horn now has 9,400 miles since I bought it new 9.5 months ago. Cumulative fuel economy to date is 25.1 MPG. (Calculated at the pump, every tank, every time. Twenty-five miles per gallon!) I'm guesstimating that DEF consumption may be 7 gallons so far, which means 1,340 miles per gallon of DEF. The DEF tank holds 8 gallons, vs. the 4.5 gallon capacity of the Titan XD. Each truck has a 26 gallon fuel tank.

Convenience is an important part of the vehicle equation, esp. as we get older and our time constraints (farm life in New England) are much different than in the east bay suburbs of California where the living was easy. :) So, the RAM's benefit of 65% better diesel fuel economy and about double the DEF economy vs. the Titan XD is much more convenience in the form of fewer stops. Fuel tank range is easily 600+ miles.

The Titan XD is just too massive and heavy for its own good. But I suppose all that weight makes for a smoother highway ride. (I'll still take the coil-over rear suspension of my RAM...)

This truck is horribly ugly, gets terrible fuel mileage, has miserable acceleration, so I'm glad it rides well on the highway. I knew it could do at least one thing right.

Apparenttly the mileage improves with wear. Still it has to at least be 80% more efficient. I think it actually might work if they can figure how to make wine out of water. Huge fail for cummins!. Why a V8? This isn't vegetable juice a smaller 6 or even a 4 with electric boost would have been a better choice.
