New Mazda CX-9

Just picked up 2016 Mazda CX-9 (Silver) today.
Questions I have:
1. When should I do first oil change
2. What is the best way for external paint care? Thinking of getting it washed, clay(if needed), and opti-coat/wax. One detail shop quoted me around $400 for this claiming its a 6 hrs job. Is it worth it or just get washed and waxed?

Any suggestion would be very helpful.

I like claying cars, not that I do much of it. But it's easy, easier than applying a paste wax. If I got a new car, I'd wash it, clay it and then wax it. Don't know what opticoat is or whether it's worth it. Since a detail shop is recommending it and not a dealer, it's probably something halfway decent.

$400 sounds a bit high but CX-9s are big vehicles.

Oil change? Probably 7,500 miles unless your Mazda has a maintenance minder like a lot of cars have. In that case you'll get a dash light and probably a chime when it's time. Maybe an owner can pop in here. Or you could skim the owner's manual (but that's no fun :) ).

    Congrats on the new ride!

Detailing and waxing a new car? In New Jersey? Just get it washed, then wait for Spring to wax. I certainly wouldn't pay a detail shop for any hoity-toity special treatment.

I like to wax mine when they are new because that's the only time I'm excited about the car and I know that I'll probably never wax it again. :D

And yeah, the clear coat protects the other paint layers just fine. Waxing is just for the shine. Claying can help if there's rail dust on the car from transport, but most rail cars are well enclosed these days, and lots of cars anymore are shrink wrapped for transport.

:D stever. You are probably right. And as much as I like to keep my car running as long as possible, I also like them to look as new as possible.. lol . So I guess based upon the feedback I received, I'll just stick to Handwash, clay, polish/wax.

If you get bored, you're welcome to stop by my house anytime. I'll even buy the wax. :D

I was just in a wreck today. If I had kept my car clean and waxed all the time, well, just think of all the wasted hours that would be down the drain.

Then again, maybe the kid that hit me would have seen a shiny car and slowed down. ;)

Ha ha, thank you for your offer, may be I will take you up on it. Uploading the image right after I brought it home from the dealership.

That is terrible that you were in a wreck. Hope its not a lot of damage. Kid slowing down seeing shiny car, that's probable, but if who knows what was he/she up to. Good luck with claim process. Hope the insurance company settles favorably.

Very nice! Nice cobbles on the driveway too.

Still waiting to hear from the collision place, who are also acting as the adjuster for my insurance company. It's an old van so it wouldn't take too much to total it.

Hamilton Mazda. Where are you located? You can work with Neal Simon there. Or you can also goto Voykek at Open Road Mazda in East Brunswick.
