Price deals for Toyota Highlander 2017

The new Highlander is finally here. What discounts are people getting? The Highlander has lots of competition from other auto makers (i.e Honda Pilot) so pricing should be competitive.

I dunno, the RAV4 has a lot of competition from the CR-V, but the deals don't seem to be as good.

We don't have the 2017 pricing up yet.

TMV is about 9.5% off MSRP for the 2016s (I checked an AWD XLE). A good range would be 8 to 12% off MSRP, and for a 2017 Highlander in the first month on the showroom, prices may not hit 8% off right away.

    Anyone else shopping Highlanders?

I'm in south florida. One dealer is quoting 9% off MSRP on the 2017 Highlander XLE FWD. I'm waiting until the end of the month to try a better deal, Dec 31 maybe ;-).

Here are the best quotes I have gotten so far from a Truecar request in TX:

Limited, Blizzard Pearl/Almond, MSRP $44,540; Sale Price $40,541; OTD $43,324
And for leasing the same vehicle, 36/12k, 68% residual, .0025 MF

Limited Platinum, Blizzard Pearl/Black, MSRP $47,571; Sale Price $42,376, OTD $45,125

Welcome any thoughts/opinions. Was a bit surprised at the high MF compared what's been quoted for the 2016s?

The 2016 MF was very high, as well. It's only come down since September.

    Vehicle: 2017 Highlander XLE - V6 AWD
    LA LA ROUGE MICA color
    Seating for 8; 2nd Row 60:40 Bench
    MSRP: $41,145
    Internet Cash Price: $38,382.20

Has anyone found a better price?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Hi @goodbuys28, your offer is a bit less than 8% off your MSRP.

The usual range is 8 to 12% off MSRP, but we often see Toyotas falling at the lower end of the range.

Costco prearranged pricing in the Houston/Richardson/Katy area about 9% off MSRP for a 2017 Highlander SE with no port options. Will be picking it up next week. There are some Toyotathon incentives that were just announced for some regions for 2017 Highlanders: $500 cash back or 0.9% interest for 60 months. Try the mid-Atlantic region, for example.

I'm looking into getting a 2017 Highlander SE AWD (Blizzard Pearl).
Current dealer I'm talking to is offering me $39K OTD (with a 2000 trade-in value).

Only Options: Clear Paint Protection $149, TOYOGUARD Elite $539

What do you guys think ? Good deal or keep negotiation ?

What's the selling price of the Highlander before the taxes and fees?
  • eddynguyen924eddynguyen924 Member Posts: 2
    $38,781

    Selling Price: $43,393
    Discount: $4,612
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Thanks, looks like you're $1,000+ below invoice and 9% below invoice (actually a little bit better counting your options).

You have a couple of different "deals" going here. Your selling price (MSRP is $42,485 with destination, plus your options is $43,173) and your trade. You can appraise your trade here.

From what I see you are in the good range for a Toyota deal.

We don't have residuals on the 2017 model, yet.. Maybe, after the first of the year.

Outside philly, 2017 highlander le plus white for 33000, dealer showed me invoice and this is $1500 lower than that. Invoice was a printed one pager, don't really trust that so not sure if it really was an invoice or not. Thoughts ?

Hi @rajatarora - we show invoice for that model (AWD version) to be $34,635, including the $940 destination and $352 for that nice Blizzard Pearl paint.

So it looks like the dealer's invoice printout is trustworthy.

Hello Stever. Turns out the price included a $500 rebate which negates the 0.9 financing and was for a 2016 Highlander instead of 2017. The best I have for 2017 Highlander LE Plus Blizzard Pearl is 34041 not including $500 rebate so eligible for 0.9% financing. This plus tax and tags & 6% tax
  • edindaviscaedindavisca Member Posts: 15
I picked up a 2017 Highlander Limited today, MSRP was 45,907.00 My cash / finance price was $41143.00 and my lease cap cost that I ended up doing was 41,643.00 (no toyota cash on leases.) I felt like this was an amazing price for a 17 and was super appreciative at their offer out of the gate!

Okay, so let's take another run through the numbers. The AWD LE Plus in that nice white invoices for $34,283. MSRP is $37,460 and the TMV for Philly is $37,042. All those numbers include the $940 destination and the paint cost ($395 MSRP, $352 invoice). The $500 incentive isn't included.

Your $34,041 quote is close to invoice and much better than TMV. And your quote is about 9% off MSRP.

Anywhere from 6 to 12% off MSRP is good and you're in the middle of that benchmark, especially since Toyotas in general tend to run around 7 to 8 % off it seems.

Oh, good move about the financing. We have a APR vs Cash calculator and my rough guess is that you'll save around $24 a month by taking the 0.9%.

I think you are doing fine. Looks like Ed out in California in the post above got about 10% off MSRP and that's a better buying area, so I wouldn't sweat the extra $300 or $400 bucks that another percent might get you. Worth a shot, but not a deal breaker to me.

Need help. Looking at 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrids. Dealer quoted me $51,888.22 OTD for Hybrid Limited Platinum with the Euro Running Boards and $69 phone package for zip code 30518. Is this a good price?

Hi Leo, Georgia is weird about the ad valorum car taxes so it's not easy for us to back out the taxes and see what your selling price is.

We don't show "Euro" running boards or the phone package under our list of options. The running boards listed here run $599 and it looks like the MSRP is $49,419.

The True Market Value average price paid for your area is $48,296. About $3,000 over the invoice ($45,030).

I like to see deals running from 6 to 12% below MSRP but Toyotas are tough and TMV isn't even lose to 5% off MSRP. And you're in a captive distributorship area that's known for adding in extra fees (that could explain the "Euro" running boards).

Try figuring out the taxes and subtract them and see how the selling price compares to MSRP and TMV.

@edindavisca would you mind sharing if you put money down, your annual miles and monthly payment? I'm in NJ and I've received several quotes for $450/month for 36,000/15k miles. thanks!
  • leo1214leo1214 Member Posts: 5
    Stever,

They're the same $599 MSRP running boards that you show. The Toyota website just lists them as euro running boards. Before taxes, dealership is offering the Vehicle at $48,951.15. My ad valorek taxes would be 6% on top of that. Good deal or should I wait for something better? I'm willing to drive to TN to get out of Southeast Toyota market if I have to. Would that be a good option?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454

Thanks @leo1214, that helps a lot. Looks like your selling price isn't even close to the TMV average.

Checking TMV for Chattanooga, the numbers are a little worse. :'(

Pricing on the non-hybrid Highlander doesn't look any different.

I'm not sure what to tell you. The numbers seem high. Guess you could try for some more quotes - this late in the year it may be faster to call the Atlanta area dealers and maybe the one in Chattanooga, just to see if I'm missing something.

It may just boil down to supply and demand. SUVs are hot and Toyotas are in demand and this is the latest and greatest. You've obviously done your homework if you know about Southeast Toyota. Hard to say if prices will moderate in a couple of months - the problem with waiting is that you may not get that much better of a deal, and you'll miss out on a couple of months of driving.

And I thought Texas/Louisiana Toyota deals were tough.

Yes - My MF was .00165, Payment is $450.00 (includes 7.5% Sales Tax), put down $3750.00. This is for a 36/15 lease, I am in Northern California.

    @stever ,

Got another quote which I hope you will tell me is a good one. $48,886 OTD on 2017 Highlander Hybrid Limited Platinum?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Okay, so subtract 6% and your selling price is around $46,000.

On this one, invoice is 44,655, MSRP is $48,820 and TMV is $47,711.

So you're ~1,700 under the TMV average and for this model in the Hotlanta area, it sounds good.

Good luck closing the deal Leo!
  • leo1214leo1214 Member Posts: 5
    @stever,

Oh I had to get way out of the hotlanta area to get this deal. Dealership is in Illinois. Still a good deal then?
  • leo1214leo1214 Member Posts: 5
They're offer was &45,016 plus taxes and fees which they quoted the $48,886 total.

Cool, you really shopped around. TMV isn't much different than Atlanta from Chicagoland or down south in Marion.

That deal is ~$300 over invoice for the selling price and sounds great. Certainly worth the drive!

Over the holidays, I picked up 2017 Highlander XLE for $36,390 (including the $500 rebate) MSRP $41,169. Living the the Pittsburgh area I traveled to Philadelphia to get the deal. In my area, it was $1500 higher and dealers would not do any better. A train ride to Philly, pickup the SUV and drove back. Not only did I save $1500, I also had a real Philly cheese steak.

Tip: If you are willing to travel, check dealers outside your area, you may find a good deal.
