Apple CarPlay Question

First vehicle with Apple CarPlay. My previous vehicle would allow me to select an artist and play everything by them. I can't seem to be able to figure out how to make this work on CarPlay. I have to select a specific album from an artist as there's no option to just select the artist.

Is this correct or am I missing something?

I'm looking at the offical Apple blurb for CarPlay, and in the music tutorial it says: "search by artist, album or song"

I don't use Apple CarPlay so I'm sorry I can't try it out for you.

It will automatically pull up playlists when you open the music app on Apple Carplay. You will need to go 'back' in the menu once or twice to get the menu that shows song, album, artist, and playlists. Hard to explain when I don't have a vehicle right in front of me so give me a second to do so :P

I've got CarPlay in my VW Jetta; I can confirm that when you select an artist, you then get a list of the albums. I'd have to check the manual to see if there is a way to shuffle all the songs for an artist, without selecting an album.

You should be able to select by artist. When the screen shows all albums by that artist, just select "shuffle all". It should begin to play all songs from all albums randomly.

But the easiest maneuver is to tell Siri to "Play (artist)."
