Liftgate won't unlock

I have a 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. The liftgate is not a power liftgate. It was working yesterday, but this morning when I press the button to unlock and open the liftgate, it won't unlock so I can't open the liftgate. I tried toggling the power locks to no avail. The button that will lock the car and arm the alarm right next to it is working fine.
I've looked around and could only find issues with power liftgates which this is not. Are there any suggestions or should I just make an appointment with the dealership?
