How will this help a blind person when a Pruis is sitting, stopped with its nose near the crosswalk?

    1. It doesn't have to be a Prius (or a hybrid) to get into this situation. Any car can be stopped with its nose near the sidewalk, and not making any noise. Unless you are driving a 2 decades old Diesel.

    2. If the car is stopped, does it matter that it was a hybrid or a regular gasoline engine?

    3. how does a stopped vehicle hurt anybody?

    4. Last but not the least, the driver of the vehicle is not blind. Why would he drive off when a blind man is crossing the road?
  • crkeehncrkeehn Member Posts: 513
The concern appears to be not as much with a parked car as with the danger of stepping in front of a moving and unheard car.

Yes the driver of the vehicle has an obligation to be aware, an obligation which is not necessarily fulfilled. I can think of my younger, much less experienced days, not long after I got my drivers license, when I almost hit a young child. I was driving to college and passed a school bus stop. I saw a parent standing there with a child, both the parent and child were looking right at me. The child suddenly darted right in front of me. I had assumed (you know what they say about assume) that as the child had looked right at me that he would know I was there and that he wouldn't run into the street.

A driver can think that a pedestrian is aware of the car and not be prepared for the pedestrian to step right in the cars path.

I, for most part, agree with your remarks.

However, my response was for a car parked(stopped) near the crosswalk.

For a moving silent car, see my earlier suggestion of putting on jingle bells on the wheels, like they have been done in India from, gosh I don't even know how long ago, times.

Isn't it just the GMC clone of the Tahoe?

The Denali is an upscale Yukon priced around $10K more than a Tahoe or Yukon and $10K less than an Escalade. The 2001 Denali came with the 6.0 and the new version has the 403 HP 6.2L. As far as towing and hauling, I have a full size Titan to do those things. Being a crewcab truck it can also double as a family hauler. The only thing I use the tow hitch for is a chrome Denali insert.

The new Tahoe can be had with the 6.2L as an option on its LTZ model.

Ok, I just got a phone up about an hour ago and this absolutely blew my mind. It was some guy from a vehicle buying service (which will remain nameless due to TOS) wanting a price on a vehicle (that literally does not exist by the way). Having being unfortunate enough to have dealt with this before, I informed him of that but before he ignorantly hung up, I asked him a question..... HOW MUCH ARE YOU CHARGING THE CUSTOMER and HOW MUCH PROFIT ARE YOU MAKING? Needless to say he refused to answer me. I pulled up the company's website and was appalled by what I saw. It was just like an online F&I office with them trying to get you to buy there "discounted cost" service contracts and GAP insurance and all kinds of other BS. And they have the coconuts to make it look like we're crooks

I will tell you what will probably happen will be a dealership will straight up lie and give them a stupid low number (since there's no vehicle with these specs anywhere anyway) and who knows where it will go from there. Then when the consumer comes in "sorry we were unable to get this vehicle" and who knows where it goes from there. Tell me it doesn't sound like they are the ones taking advantage of the customer. I'm in the process of trying to contact this company to find out exactly what the fee is. Should be interesting.

So a guy comes in with one of those huge hiker back packs. Everyone is busy so reception ask me help him and to answer some of his questions.

He's a clean cut guy that looks like one of those environmental guys who drink tree sap for breakfast and can speak bird and racoon languages from the time they spent in the wild.

He asks me what I have that can compete with a Hummer. :confuse:

I was a bit shocked because I though he'd be asking me for a hybrid or a bicycle, or he's asking for our biggest gas guzzler so he can make a statement by setting it on fire, and then fleeing on his bicycle.

He said he does guided tours of rainforests and he wants a car that can go offroad and carry lots of people and gear. I smelled bs right away and asked him to produce a business card as proof of his story. Well ok, i didn't say it like that but I did some info digging (asking qualifying questions) and he did give me a card, nothing professional, with some free hosted emails on it.

I asked him what he drives right now, to which he hesitated ( i had a feeling he rode a bus or a bicycle), and after a few uhhhs, uuuhs, he said a classic car, few more uhhhs, and then he said a Buick from the 80s.

Right right right I said. His car I did not see parked on our lot though.

Anyways I told him a Wrangler Rubicon will do the trick as it's one fo the most capable off roaders there is, aside from a Humvee H1 or H2.

"Nope" he says, "too small. I need more room. I need 8 seats inside"

Hmmm I'm thinking, unless I sell him a military transport truck, there isn't many vehicles out there that match what he wants.

So I run by him the idea of a 7 seat SUV, ala Commander, Durango, Aspen: nope nope nope (all too much dough). Pilots, MDX, all to no avail.

He looks inside a Caravan, and doesn't mind the room, but i told him he won't get anywhere off road in it. I started to lose focus as to what he was saying because his lips had lots of white saliva on the side when he was talking and it wasn't going away and it made me wanna gag, and the saliva was stretching between the top and bottom lip and it was kinda nasty. Sort of like when you're really thirsty. I had a sour face at that point and nodded as to show my attentiveness to his needs.

I offered water but he didn't want it but had more inquires about his off roader 8 passenger van, so this came to my mind:
    image

but he didn't want a custom made one cause he didn't want to spend much money.

I told him his best bet was to go for a pick up truck. Great off road, great deals on them , seats 6 but put a canopy on it and he'll be good to go. At which point another customer of mine (that bought a month ago) walked up to say hi. He aslo mentions to this guy that he bought a Jeep from me and is very happy with it. The enviro-guy asks me: "Did you paid that guy to say good stuff about you and your products while customers are here?" :confuse: I should have said yes to throw him off..

As a last resort I showed him our gem of a offraoder, an 00 Land Rover Disco, with rear jump seats, but that too failed to impress him. He had to have 8 seats plus room for cargo.

He told me to call him when something that he wants shows up. I told him I would, but I also said that "no manufacturer ever made what you're describing for civilian use. And chances of it being traded in to us are slim to none."

But I'd call him anyways if it came in.....He said he's going to buy within a year. :D Was I excited or what. I may have something there.... ;)

He went off to look at a Hummer. I told him he 's not going to find more space inside anyways. But away he went.....

"...his lips had lots of white saliva on the side..."

Not to jump to conclusions, but some medications cause the foaming of white saliva at the lips. Some of those medications deal with psychological problems. From what you shared, I would say that you had a rather unique experience. He could have been hitchhiking and decided that he needed some diversion from the road. There are many displaced persons out there these days. It was good of you to give him so much of your time.

He looked clean and not like a street guy. Plus he gave me his business card. His saliva wasn't crazy foaming but little bit, but enough to kinda make me lose my focus to his aspirations of taking people into a rainforest in a 8 passenger 4X4 van.

I was offered $7500 off an 09 SE this morning, not bad but the interest rate they were offering was 5.9%. My credit score is 704, so I figured 5.9 was a little to high. Oh, it wasn't the Nissan dealer that was playing games, it was Dodge and Toyota.

I did meet a few of the drifters. The Spinners are the ones working at my store now along with some of the Temptations. The Spinners started that fad you see now on SUV's and near Luxo-mobiles. You know the big chrome wheels with spinners. The Temptations just hang around the lot "tempting" customers but not really selling anything, they are related to the Drifters as their "Papa, was a rolling stone".

I'm not in the market for Nissans, but it looks you got pretty good offer here. It underlines importance of KNOWING BEFORE, not after - otherwise good offer may smack you in the face and you may still turn your nose. In this case, you should have get an approval from the bank (so you know what commercial APR you qualify) and THEN ask for the offer - you might even ask for two, one with low rate another with market rate. Again - know the facts before you go, not after.

You need to remember in most cases it's either low APR or cash, or at least some portion - some mfrs. have low APR plus bonus cash OR large cash. So if you pile cash discount then you need to go with commercial (market) rate - 5.9% is quite good for somebody below 750 score. You may find somebody giving you a few points less, perhaps 5.5% or so perhaps. OR - if you do want low APR, you will likely need to relinquish some of that discount. The same would be true in any other brand.

You are soooooo right! Like most things, the key is to plan, plan, plan. With the tighter credit controls now in place, I think that he did very well to be offered 5.9% with a score under 750. I would run, not walk, back to the dealer and beg for that offer again. In some places, a score of 800+ may only get you 6%. It is important to recognize a gift when you see one. ;)

I was wondering if the Labor Day weekend is busy for car dealerships. Personally this is the time I would least want to be in a showroom. From an emotional standpoint it would feel like the summer driving season was over. From a practical standpoint it would seem too early for the good deals that come with bad weather. I also hate shopping in crowded stores where the salesman has 3 other customers on the hook.

I've learned, however, that my viewpoint is usually the opposite of the general buying public.

So how is the traffic in your showrooms this weekend? Is it a madhouse full of customers or do they all stay home and drink like me?

This weekend has been much busier than 4th of July. It's been a slow month for us too, but it's picked up a bit. I've noticed some movement at the higher price levels so I'm hoping it trickles down. Gas has dropped from about $4.50 here to about $3.50 so that should have an affect too.
