Kirstie...are you saying those, ummmm....."pants".....would NOT be the gift that keeps on giving? :P
Last time I drove a Peugot was a rental in Mexico....in a town that may, or may not be, part of the Caribbean. Actually, not a bad car. Nothing that really bowled me over. But, it was comfy, handled decently, and was certainly faster than the beat up taxis weaving in and out of traffic. It was new enough that it actually earned me a parking spot smack dab in front of a "Senor Frogs".
Back on topic, I don't know if this web site has been mentioned before, but I've found it interesting.....www.truecar.com.
Don't know where, or how, they compile their data. But, if its anywhere close to being accurate, it might be a new pricing tool for those who are in the market for a new car.
A nice summer evening, the top down........ :-D
Basically since I joined up in Feb 08 so about a year and a half. I was working graveyard and had a lot of spare time. After I switched shifts I read in my down time, which can be considerable some days.
-------------------
This story sounds very similar to mine -- not a lot going on at work, most internet sites blocked (not Edmunds!), trying to look busy. Glad those days are over!
I think it took me about a year to get through all the posts in this forum.
Thanks to all that contributed, its been a real education!
Not too long ago someone here mentioned this site. I went and took a look and it appears to have more in depth info as to how to get a good price.
As you know, I don’t need it now but it looks exactly like what you need to get off the fence. It's easy to tell someone else (or 2) how to buy a car

A visual feast of fifty of the most craptastic cars ever to hit the American highway.
Crap Cars is a window into the vanity and silliness of almost any decade as expressed through that ultimate of status symbols: your car. Traveling from the ’60s to the ’90s, it showcases the cheapest, the tackiest, and the mechanically inept, including cars made by companies like Porsche and BMW that put them to shame. There’s also the blobby Merkur Scorpio, the ungainly Rolls-Royce Camargue, the squarish Maserati Biturbo, and the (ironically) flammable Renault Fuego. Each photo spread is accompanied by a short, hilarious critique by Richard Porter, a crap car expert, who sees straight through all the pimped-out bodywork to the true lemon that lies underneath.
Crap Cars is the perfect gift for anyone who loves cars or the casualties of bad taste, or for that special someone who misses their own beloved, long-gone piece of crap.

Makes me glad I am the IT department at work, nothing is blocked for anyone...
Just for fun I ran my wife's 2009 PT Cruiser through that site. It said anything less than $20,200ish was an incredible deal. I paid high 17s.
I'm nowhere near your league when it come to negotiating so either I missed something or that site runs high. (at least for that car).
Maybe their figures don't consider rebates and dealer cash.

I think truecar.com actually considers holdback and rebates/incentives when figuring actual dealer cost. But, if they're gathering purchase info from dealers, or better yet, BMV figures, then it gives a good gauge of the delta in pricing on any particular models over the course of a set period of time. Wish the site gave more information on how and where the data is derived.
PT Cruisers? I dunno. Maybe they're becoming scarce? Are they even manufacturing them any more? I know I've seen newspaper ads for them that run right around the $16K-$17K range around here. But, none of those ads have been recent (at least none that I've noticed).
I ran the deal I helped my friend get on the '09 CR-V and I beat their "great price", too.
Garage (Canadian Tire Store - blah) couldn't fix it though they said it was fine, even if it does make noises.
He took it to Honda, and they will put in a new transmission - they are shocked that it broke down.
I am surprised that a Honda transmission went so soon, but I am even more surprised that they agreed to replace it so easily.

I find it amusing the Honda store would act like a failed transmission was a surprise to them. Honda has had a history of transmission problems.

Did you go ask them in person?
Shop it around to a few other search engines and the guy down on the corner who has a few searches on his lawn from time to time?
Better check with the local search shop and make sure there aren't any kinks with this particular algorithm.

Yep. Hordes of people in the Honda Ody discussion are complaining that their 8 year old Honda Ody, with ONLY 130,000 miles, are having transmission problems.
Honda transmissions should never break down. The vehicle will usually just disintegrate into a pile of rust around the bullet and missile proof transmission.
If you actually read all those threads, and I do owning 2 V6 Honda products, the vast majority of people on there with dead trannys are at well below 100K. Heck, there are people with 130K now that are on their 3rd!
I don't know what you consider to be normal life for a tranny (especially one that costs 4-5K to replace), but 6 years/90K sounds a little short to me. Especially when you pay a premium for the vaunted Honda "bullet and missleproof" quality!

OTOH when my old Windstall's tranny bit the dust Ford treated me like a leper and I never saw a cent from them.
At least a Ford tranny can be rebuilt for loads less.
"Honey, do these pants make me look fat?"

Apparently, the White House doesn't like basic math. Perhaps they'll proclaim that we're not a real automotive site.

I've followed and have read just about every post in that discussion for about 4 years. The "vast majority" of posts deal with trans that are around 80k-130k miles. Check out the last 10 posts as a small sample... 5 of the 10 Ody's are 2002 or 2003 with more than 90k miles. Honda does a lot more in helping their loyal to the death followers with reimbursements. But, it does get a bit ridiculous when people expect free, or half off on cost of replacement transmission, when they are riding around on a 7, 8 or 9 year old van with over a 100k miles.
The Ford Freestar transmission problem discussion is also quite interesting. Problems much worse with their trans than Hondas... most saying Ford isn't doing anything to help, and they are wanting to band together to file a class action suit.
A lot of one and done posters make me believe there is a lot of double dipping going on.
Yes, we are related. We are the same person. I am not sure why that happened, but it seems I am driver 200 when I write in from work. I think it was that way a long time ago and then when I had to log in I probably used the old password. Any way, it is too difficult for me to fix, so to avoid confusion - Driver 100 and 200 are one and the same person. :surprise:

Hipster must have overlooked the other 99% such as this most recent post:
My wife's 07 Odyssey. It has 35K on it and has been experiencing the issue for at least the last 6K.
I realize trying to spin reality is a debating tactic, but the cars are sold to some gullible consumers as a perfect machine. But then reality strikes.
A few get their transmission replaced free (paid for by the Honda extended warranty in the extra price they paid initially for the ubercar), but most get an offer of a small portion beneficiently paid for by Honda and the customer pays the rest.
The topic makes interesting reading along with CRV AC compressors.

One thing that caught my eye..... Edmunds.com, the premier resource for online automotive information in the very first sentence.
Does that mean all of us here are the "premier posters for online automotive information"? :P
That would be the full list price. At our warehouse sale we'll have them for $5!

Not so fast there. With the way my employer has been taking advantage of their best consultant lately, I'd like to throw my hat into that ring.
Finally, a chance to go out with a position that carries no responsibility.

Did you notice how powerful those lights were? They actually made the car move. The NTSB probably outlawed them for that very reason. As Car Czar, I will allow them to be brought back. Cars can never have too much power.
