PT Cruiser Turbo Engine Knock

Thanks for reading my post.
I'm new to this site, and a new owner of a 2005 PT Cruiser Turbo.
I deduced that the number four cylinder is knocking due to the noise, location and, definitely not a tapping sound.
I have the " E ", engine and have been told by all parts places to replace the main crank bearings, I must get the dealer kit for the head and bearings replacement
Just wondering if any mechanics have had to deal with this issue and if there are other alternatives?
Thanks

Trying to just replace the bearings without properly fitting and polishing the crankshaft is like playing Roulette. Even then what about the connecting rod, does it need resized? How positive are you that the noise is absolutely the rod bearing?

If I was going to fix this, I would be pulling the engine and doing a complete rebuild with a trusted machinist grinding and fitting the crank bearings and pistons. This would also include rebuilding the cylinder head, resizing the rods and checking (correcting) the line bore of the block.

That being said, people often get away with doing part of the job a lot more often than not, but that doesn't make it wise to try.
