My 06C230 won't go from park to reversw seems to be locked. It was recommended to replace computer.

Ok I am new to this forum. I have a C230 06, shifter is locked. Home garage mechanic replaced shuft lock but it only worked until I got to my next stop. He has another car same as mine with a blown engine and syggests swapping the computer to fix problem, can that work?

The shift lock gets power when you step on the brake. Do the brake lights work?
Has the "Home garage mechanic" checked the fuses?
It could be a blown fuse, could be a broken wire, it could be a loose connector or it could even be broken linkage in the shifter. But the computer? Not likely.
