My 2010 toyota matrix awd is making an engine whining noise high pitched when accelerating. Not sure what to do?

Whine noises tend to be belts, alternator, power steering pump or pulley issues.
When was the fan belt last replaced? If never, it is a good place to start and when the belt is off, gives a good chance to check the pulleys and alternator bearings.
