2017 Highlander Smells Hot

Hi, I have a 2017 Toyota Highlander with 14,000 miles on it. In the last couple of months it has started smelling extremely hot, but temperature gauge never changes. I have also felt a lunge or slip on flat ground or elevation. Has anyone else had this same issue? I am scheduled for a shop visit on 4/30. Thank you.

"smelling hot" is kind of a subjective observation, so it's difficult to pin down to a particular cause. Since you can't really "smell" heat, you might be smelling something that IS hot--like oil dripping onto a hot exhaust, or hot coolant that is leaking.

Your shop visit should reveal if that is going on.

As for the "skip", that could be any number of things, such as an ignition misfire or maybe a fuel delivery issue. By all means make sure the car is thoroughly scanned for trouble codes when you go in for service.

Feeling a lunge or slip... maybe a brake pad is dragging. That can certainly "smell hot"
