Water leaking into cabin

I have a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi and when it rains I have wet carpet throughout the front and rear of the vehicle. The sunroof wells have been checked and my auto body guy has taken off the interior door panels to see if he can spot where the water is leaking into the vehicle. With the interior door panels off, he can pour water on the outside of the vehicle and see it come inside the door with the door panels off. What parts need to be replaced in order to stop the water from coming inside the cabin.

The doors have a plastic weather shield that is glued to the metal with a black gummy material. The plastic is under the inner door panel. The black gummy seals are placed so that the water from the metal side gets to the plastic and the black mastic material keeps the water flowing in a V to the 3 drains that let the water go back toward the outside of the door, back to the outside of the metal frame. Then the water drains out the drains on the bottom of the door.

If I can find pictures of this from older forums, I'll link them here.

What you can do to test, is put baby powder on the metal door sills. Then spray the car with water for a period of time and see if you can find tracing over the powder where the water ran to the interior.

Here's a link to an older post and the pictures are still linked. Many pictures for older posts have been unlinked by photobucket...

The sun roof drains are notorious for coming loose where the go through the floor boards. This lets water from the sun roof drain into the car. There are 4 drains. If the drain has broken above the floorboard of the car, the water would still drain away from the sunroof showing the drains aren't blocked, but the water is going inside the car.

Sun roof help with pictures. Older article, but still has pictures that show up!

I hope one of these links helps. I think they have the info you're looking for.

IIRC, expect to take out the carpet to get it to dry or use some blowers to keep air circulating over them if you are in a dry enough climate as opposed to being in a high humidity area.

    Good luck!
