WELL, FINALLY GOT OUR 2011 KIA SEDONA CHARGING ISSUE FIXED ! AFTER A YEAR WITH THE DEALERSHIP .. OK, LETS BACK UP .. OUR SEDONA WOULD BREAK DOWN BECAUSE OF CHARGING/BATTERY ISSUES.. FINALLY AFTER INSTALLING 3 AFTERMARKET ALTERNATORS AND A NEW BATTERY.. IT WOULD BREAK DOWN AGAIN ( AFTER AROUND 1 AND 1/2 - 2 MONTH MARK... THE FINALE FIX WAS TO PAY THE 450 DOLLARS FOR KIA ORIGINAL ALTERNATOR. IT HAS BEEN CLOSE TO 4 MONTHS NOW WITH NO ISSUES ...THANK YOU ALL, I HOPE THIS WILL HELP SOME ONE ELSE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES..

That's interesting. I was just watching a YouTube video the other day, with a technician doing a very thorough step by step analysis, with scanner and scope, on a mysterious battery drain---and yep, it turned out to be the alternator. In this case, the drain was periodic. It wouldn't happen until about 90 minutes or so after you shut the car down. Diabolical problem to solve, too.

Watching techs document themselves at their work does a number of things. First it helps the next generation of technicians study and practice at their own pace. It also demonstrates why they have to develop a patient, disciplined approach to diagnostics. When walking up to the next car you never know if it will be easy or a nightmare. One of the biggest things the videos done correctly does is communicate to everyone else that while some parts of the work are more physical in nature the majority of the top techs are saddled with very high tech challenges and why there is a need for the techs to have more training and tooling than ever before. This work is on par with an engineer's career and the compensation should reflect that.

On that one the draw turned out to be the aternator, if someone would have guessed that and tossed the part they would have gotten it right. What we have had to deal with as we were learning new tools and even creating new skills were atitudes from every one around us that would have made the person shooting from the hip and getty lucky the hero or most knowledgeable person, and not the tech that went through that problem the right way. Of course had the shot-gunned alternator not fixed it techs like me often ended up getting these cars and solving them, what ever the problem was without getting paid for the time that it took to do it.
