2009 Subaru Outback Automatic Transmission slips from drive into sport mode?? Why?

Hello there,

I have a 2009 Subaru Outback and the automatic transmission has been starting to just slip from drive into sport mode. Also, there is no resistance in sport mode the shifter just falls to the bottom. Sport mode still works if I hold it in the middle, shift up or down, then manually move lever back to middle and can then shift up or down again. Any body know why this is happening? Thanks!

Sounds like some kind of linkage problem to me. It might be useful to remove the console and see what's going on in there. Might be as simple as a broken spring or busted plastic detente of some type.
