I have a 99 sierra 1500 and have troubles keeping it running. When I turn the key to start the trucks, you can hear it cranking but will not turn over, however when I step on the accelerator with the key turned it will start. As soon as the truck starts, if I let off the accelerator, the truck shuts off. I have to keep my foot on the accelerator for a solid 10 seconds before I can take my foot off the accelerator. Has a very low idle and seems to burn rich when starting up. I've been told to replace fuel pump and filter by a friend.
Looking for ideas on what might need to be fixed. Thanks!

Is this cranking slower than usual? If you have a very low battery, this symptom could occur.

But your description of "burning rich" might hold a clue--perhaps a leaking fuel injector that's loading up the cylinder overnight?

Does this happen with cold engine and hot engine, or just a cold engine?

I wouldn't just go out and replace a fuel pump without testing. You can buy or borrow or even rent a simple fuel pressure tester to tell you what's going on with both static and running fuel pressures.

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 4.8L. Sometimes when I try to start my engine it starts and sometimes it doesn't do anything. Complete silence. Is it a Ignition problem or a starter problem. It has me at a point that I just don't know.
