4wd makes weird noise and wont let me drive when engaged.

went off-roading, went to go put from 2wd to 4wd, drove for like 1 meter when it started making noises. works in reverse tho. when i try to drive forward again it slows the jeep down and thumps. any idea what couldve broke?
